On January 13, 2026, the Board of the Azerbaijan–Turkey Businessmen Association (ATIB) traditionally paid a visit to the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkey to Azerbaijan, Prof. Dr. Birol Akgün, prior to their first meeting of the new term in 2026.
After getting acquainted with the members of the ATIB Board, the Ambassador spoke about the current state of Azerbaijan–Turkey relations in the context of recent political developments in the region. He expressed confidence that economic relations between the two countries will enter a new phase with the opening of the Zangazur Corridor. Addressing the factors that hinder the growth of trade turnover between the countries, Birol Akgün noted that this new stage will not only serve the prosperity of all regional states but will also lead to a significant increase in import-export operations. The Ambassador also expressed his satisfaction with the active role of Turkish companies in the reconstruction works in the liberated territories.
Later, ATIB Chairman Mursel Rustemov briefed the Ambassador on the projects planned by the Association for 2026. Thanking him for his support of ATIB’s activities to date, the Chairman emphasized their determination to continue cooperating with the Embassy in the implementation of future initiatives.
At the end of the meeting, a commemorative gift was presented to Ambassador Birol Akgün on behalf of the Azerbaijan–Turkey Businessmen Association.
